Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Japanese Translation Enabler Hack
This patch is a very, very simple hack to allow the usage of the Japanese translation that exists in the game but is hardcoded to not be enabled, likely due to the fact it was never released in Japan. This patch removes that limitation.
I'd also like to note, I did not produce this translation, it is Intelligent Systems' original Japanese script as it exists in the game.
Rom Required:
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (U)
How to Use:
-Use a patcher like xdelta to apply the patch to the ROM.
-Set your Nintendo DS' language to Japanese
-Play the game!
Limitations:
-The Main Intro and Title Screen isn't translated, they don't appear to exist in the standard language sensitive file structure.

Best guess?
AW3 (Dual Strike) sold awfully in Japan - estimate of less than 30k copies. Releasing AW4 which is a complete reboot of a relatively unpopular series in Japan even at its best coupled with the previous game's terrible Japanese sales probably led to an executive decision of 'not worth the costs of making a print run.' and that was the end of it.
There were rumours that the devs wanted it to be released and were trying to, it just never happened. I suppose its kind of like when Nintendo of America don't import games they think they can't sell. |

Yeah, but the Wars series has been going in Japan since the late 1980s. It's not hard to imagine that 20 years later, it's not as popular as it used to be.

It's not that surprising, really.
Advance Wars 1 wasn't released until 2004 there due to being pulled because of the September 11 Attacks - It was combined with the AW2 release. It would have lost any momentum it had from the SNES/GBC era, sitting around doing nothing for a good 5 or so years. |
