Aw, that's a little plain.

Hopefully the third grass type I unlock after beating the Elite 4 is something kickass

I have Exp. Share off ... I think it's ridiculous how easy it makes overleveling your Pokemon. I'd rather actually get to enjoy playing with all of my Pokemon. Besides, I already feel overleveled despite not using it.

I'd just like to mention that the restaurants in Lumiose City are a great source of repeatable trainer battles. You can set up Double, Triple or Rotation battles and they give you a full refill between them. It's good 1.5x, evolved-opponent trainer Exp., and at Restaurant LeWow they give you a ton of cash afterward if you perform well turn-wise.

FUCK

I've spent at LEAST 7 hours in the Friend Safari doing nothing but walking around hunting for a shiny Kirlia. No. Goddamn. Luck.

7 hours. Of nothing. But walking around in the goddamn safari.

The game even threw me a shiny Jigglypuff as some sort of cruel joke.

I like to think that it's not making me overleveled, rather it makes the pokemon I use less keep up and actually be viable. This is the first game ever where I have actually wanted to train an entire 6 pokemon team on the same time since it's actually viable. All the switching and shit you had to do to train a 6 team before was such a hassle.

We probably just play differently. I like grinding and looking in the tall grass for a long time looking for potential hidden Pokemon (and killing anything boring that gets on my way, or shinies, or pokerus, or pickup items!). So I'm at 16 hours and not at the 2nd gym yet

But also I have caught about 60 Pokemon already

RNG Seeding Glitch (E)

What glitch is this? I haven't heard of it before, but I always felt like ever since generation 3, Pokémon games have had fairly poor RNG. (3 was definitely much worse than the others, but it still seems a bit off in later versions.) It seems to get stuck in cycles, where you'll get the same encounter many times in a row, or miss 7 times in a row, etc.

What's supposed to happen is that when you start the game in the Generation 3 games, the frame counter is supposed to be used to seed the RNG. Instead, in Emerald the initial RNG seed is always zero. As such it has an incredibly easily exploitable RNG to be used and was noted even by people not savvy with RNG understanding that it was giving them the same pokemon all the time.
I always thought something like that was going on when I played Ruby. I assume if Emerald has that bug, Ruby/Sapphire do too...

Does Black/White Pokédex not have a search function? That's a pretty basic feature that's been around since G/S.

Also, amusing thing that happened:
  • Unfeazant and Servine in a double battle
  • Unfeazant chooses Air Cutter or something
  • Servine chooses Leaf Tornado
  • Unfeazant goes first, opponent is KO'd, both receive EXP
  • Servine levels up
  • Servine learns Leaf Blade, replacing Leaf Tornado
  • Servine uses Leaf Tornado anyway

The game seemed to handle it just fine. No PP used, no strange effects. Which is a little surprising after all the edge case bugs in previous games.

Actually, only Emerald has that bug. The Gen 3 games as a whole had pretty weak RNGs, though.

You know what, this image made me think of Mega Man 9 for some reason...

Probably because this pokémon looks loke a robot, but that's probably just me.

This is not fair, I've been playing for a while with nothing of particular luck while my boyfriend starts a new game and finds a shiny Panpour and a Pikachu holding a light ball on his first catch.....

Well, at least he gave me the Panpour

I wound up with a Shiny Bunnelby pretty early on. The colors are so close it was hard to tell for sure that it was shiny or if the sparkles I saw were just a hallucination.

Also, yays! Ariados is catchable again! That was one of my favorites from way back.

And is it just me, or does the bike theme sound remarkably like a family night sitcom starting sequence? I can see it now, a show called The Egg Watch, starring Studmuffin the Ditto and all his friends!

I suppose I should share my info here too

Quick tip for those who are on the hunt for shinies:

An easy way to chain-fish is to catch an Inkay with the ability Suction Cups (these can be found in grass on route 8), then give it a Smoke Ball (one can be found in the Lost Hotel). Running from a battle still increases the chain, so keep fishing the same spot with the Inkay in lead spot, and you should be able to grind out Shinies in no time! :3

The ability suction cups is actually completely optional, you can get a shiny just as easily without it.

My chains have been repeatedly foiled by not getting a bite, so that's why I suggested it, but yes it's optional.

So it's been a week since I cleared the game, but I only stumbled on the postgame today. Silly me.

I wouldn't say that it's spoilers to mention that Looker makes a return in the postgame storyline, but revealing any plot details certainly would be, so I won't. What I will say is that I found the story many times more engaging than the main storyline. I mean, so I beat Team Flare and became the Pokémon League Champion. Big whoop; that happens in every game. But when Looker needs some help investigating? Hot damn, I'm there!

In previous games, Looker's competence was dubious at best, but this time around he's genuinely portrayed as a brilliant investigator and they held true to his personality all the while. I'm especially pleased with this, as Looker's been one of my favorite characters since his introduction and I'm glad to see Game Freak actually giving him the spotlight. An additional facet of his character that I wasn't expecting was his compassion; and not just with Emma, but all throughout the campaign he's looking out for what's best for everybody without losing sight of his investigation.

All-in-all, the Looker storyline was very well done and I'm glad I did the sidequests with that professor guy and all those Pokémon gyms in order to enjoy the good stuff.

EDIT:
As long as I'm thinking about it... The tourist who went to Looker for help was speaking Japanese when I played it. I know that's one of those "no idea what they're saying" jokes, but I can't help but wonder, what language does she speak if you play the game in Japanese? Does it just pick a language at random, or is it pre-set?
