I'm guessing we'll also see expanded evolutonary lines because of this...

Right. I confused it with transferring for some reason. *merp*

X/Y are better names than Foo/Bar, at least.

Or Infrared/Ultraviolet, but you have to admit that color scheme would have been pretty cool.

I don't get that. I would understand if people said "overdesigned", even though that's not quite true.
Still, definitely later designs are more specific, which might be better or worse to your tastes... Obviously, I have a prefferance for specific designs that take from obscure things to make their own thing. But hey, if you don't, I'm fine with that.

But "lazy" seems almost contradictory. Specially since most Gen I pokémon are "general animal with X". Rock Rhyno, Fire Horse... As opposed to "this one specific species of horse that does this one thing with its feet" or whatever.

Heck even comparing it to Gen II:

But I digress. I do like many Gen I designs, and simple isn't neccessarialy bad. For instance, the Dratini line will always be of my favorites and they are pretty simple but great designs.

But don't say they've gotten objectively worse, or that they are lazier and uncreative when it's pretty much the opposite. You just dislike they being specific and perhaps having more off the wall designs, but they have increasingly more work put on them.
Also it's literally losing interest on a franchise. Specially on one that tries to mantain a generally constant image, you can grow out of it when the things children like aren't what you like anymore.

In the end, the franchise is all about having many creatures and fans liking a bunch of those creatures. So variety is a great thing.

This kind of reminds me of how Digimons are designed. In fact the same thing is happening with monsters being overdesigned (Exhibits A and B). I'm guessing that as a franchise wears on and they need new monsters they have to stretch out way more to create something unique or fitting and at the same time not have their designs be criticized for being derivative or contrived.

Well, I'm pretty clueless on Digimon... But in any case, what I mean is that whenever a design that doesn't fit some generic criteria shows up it's immediately called unoriginal for some backwards reason.

Although given the reactions to the new pokémon, the opposite is also holding true. "It's a Vulpix Zorua clone bawwww"

Anyways, forgot to post this:

(there's probably an english version somewhere, that I'm going to bet still has the horrible old pokémon logo)

Yeah, looks like the start town will be based on Paris.

I'm kind of torn between starters. I'll probably cave and end up choosing water because that's what I always do :/

Have they ever changed the logo from that for an English-language release, or are you just fishing for things to gripe about?

No gripeing, just responding to ReiNi.
Always knew the they will never change the logo, they see no reason to do so.

Anyway, what is this new eeveelution that everyone is talking about?

Considering Nintendo games are pretty much always rushed and have loads of glitches.. oh. Wait.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'll be dropping a preorder on this one. Looks good enough to buy!

No offence, but I don't get preordering; It's hardly a matter of running out I'd think. :/
Unless you go to a common brick and mortar (Like gamestop) that get a lot of traffic (Why you would want to pay gamestop anything is beyond me though. ._.;) chances are they still have quite a good supply of games. Heck, even on day one I browse online retailers for the best price and order it from there instead. By pre-ordering you're basically paying full price before getting the game and before letting the game get reviewed and criticized.

I'm just confused as to why anyone would do this?

I always complain about they using the same old logo though. Although in a somewhat jokingly manner (it is an absurdly minor thing, you know).
I think it's pretty silly the japanese games always get cool redesigned titles, yet TPCi refuses doing a new title design for the belief that somehow they need to incorporate their old logo for the games to be recognizable nevermind they have one of the most recognizable names anyways...

I don't think pokémon games of all things are rushed. And the glitches they have (well, the later ones) tend to be pretty specific stuff.
If anything I'd expect some questionable design priorities, like getting rid of rematches or not using battle types they just introduced at all. But rushed and glitchy? Nah.

The stores around here (Best Buy, EB Games, Walmart, etc) get maaaaybe 4/5 copies of games on release, unless they're AAA console titles, because (and I'm assuming) the city's not large enough to warrant shipping bigger quantities. Hell, I've been looking for Rhythm Thief since it came out and no one has ever had it in stock.

Other than that, the reason I preorder/go into a store, instead of buy online, is that I can have the game and play it right away, as opposed to waiting x number of days for it to ship.

But thinking about it, it'll likely be a day one release on the eShop, which works just as well for me!

Usually you can order it from online stores a few days before the release date anyhow and they ship on release day or some times even earlier so you have it on release date. (Depending on the store.) Beside, I meet few people who have the time to actually go to a store on the release day itself. :v

I agree. HOWEVER. There's a small local game shop in my city that gives you a free $60 game for every 12 pre-orders. Also, you get the pre-ordered game whenever it's shipped to the store. I got NSMB2 4 days early.

I work part time. If there's a game I know for a fact I want, I pre-order it in store so it's already paid for when I have the money; that way, if something comes up at the last second that requires my money, I can still get the game. This is of course more useful for more expensive items such as consoles, but yeah.

It's also useful for more under-the-radar games to make sure I actually can get a copy, for example, this is why I pre-ordered R-Type Command.
