The creators of popular online games such as Adventure Quest, Dragon Fable, and more recently the MMO Adventure Quest: Worlds brings to you the game PonyVsPony, proving that nopony ever gets tired of forced pony puns.
Yep, Artix Entertainment has come out with another game, this time appealing to the various pony-loving people of the internet. Think a player-vs-player style game with Puzzle Quest elements. It doesn't sound too appealing at first, but it's honestly worth trying.
In Artix Entertainment fashion, all of the cool stuff will cost you extra - similar to AQ's Guardian upgrade or Dragon Fable's Dragon Amulet, you're going to have to pay to "Pony Up". While the game is perfectly playable -without- the upgrades, the game tends to constantly flaunt in your face your puny status as not being ponied up; you'll be wearing the normal, boring saddle while all your friends will be wearing flaming saddles shooting rainbows and fireworks. In addition, your money and amount of battles per day will be severely limited - that is, of course, unless you pay. The price is only $9.95, though, and from what I can tell it's only a one-time payment, so it's not like it's going to burn a hole in your wallet.
Is it a good, original idea, or simply another way to take advantage of the constantly growing fan base of My Little Pony? Well, that's for you to decide - I only made the thread, after all.

Yeah, if anything really turned me off of PonyVsPony it was its overly girly atmosphere; I've found that MLP: FiM found a male audience mostly because it found a balance between the fluffy, cutesy stuff and a tomboyish side, where as PonyVsPony really overdoes it and brings the phrase "beating a dead horse" to a whole new meaning. I had to mute my computer when the looping drivel came on.
Regardless, I figured it was worth sharing since Jul has a good amount of MLP fans. |

PonyVsPony came out in the summer after season 1 I believe, AKA, over a year ago.
It's pretty much a flash game online that they somehow want you to spend monies in. Even if the name seem to imply it, the game lacks pvp. Furthermore, the gameplay is worse then I have seen in other free flash games. (Though, to be expected)
Although, this is me speaking of my experience when it came out, but I doubt it has been changed much since when I gave it a spin. ;

I always saw ads for it on EqD, but I never realized it was a game you actually put money into. Even after learning more about it, it still just seems like a "let's get on the pony fad" thing, without fully understanding what it's about.
Oh jeez, that theme song.
Pony fact of the moment:
43% of astronauts kick ponies.

This I agree with, and if you don't mind I'd like to expand on it a touch.
As for the pvp part, I have found that it does indeed lack interaction between players - rather than playing against others in real time, you're simply given a choice of three random ponies to battle against, all within your level range. While these other ponies are in fact other people's characters, you're not really playing against them; instead, you're pitted against an AI which has skill that's on par with a brick. While this would normally be bearable, the lack of depth in character building prevents your enemies from being anything more than clones of each other.
Well, let me put it this way: there is no character building. No classes, no stats, and even the items and clothes you buy have no actual benefit. The only things that you can get from the shop that actually benefit you are pets - but, look at this! Nearly all of the pets in the individual shops have the same benefit. Since you can only face others within your level, each of you having a pet with the same stats will have absolutely no purpose. Not only that, but almost all of the pets are nothing more than palette swaps of each other, which is just plain lazy.
Oh well. It was a good idea, at least. Too bad they turned it into more of a dress-up game than an actual pvp game. |
