Thanks for running this contest! I had a great time making my level, and I'm glad you guys enjoyed it!

However, I'd been avoiding playing the levels of my fellow contestants until I could play them together in the compilation hack. I don't see a link to that here, so I suppose it's not quite done yet? I await it eagerly!

I really appreciate the detail and polish put into the results page. The judging criteria are well-presented and easy to read. There were delays in the publishing, and some judging entries are incomplete, but the extant entries are constructive and professional. +4/(-5/+5).

I'm looking forward to future contests, and buoyed by my confidence I might finally attempt a full-length hack. If you're not planning to run another contest right away, I think I might go forward with a contest idea of my own. I wonder what kind of level you'd make, too.

If there's anything I had to say in defense of my level, it's...nothing really, I wasted my time doing other things when I could have been working on it.
Something 20 to 40 percent of the level was done on the day the contest was announced, mostly on the detail that "We don't care who you are, if you want to make something then make it". Days 2 through 13, entirely wasted. Day 14 and I started to feel pressure, entirely my fault.
I could possibly guarantee you the latter half of the level would look and play a lot better had I used my time properly. But, instead, I spammed concrete. ...Probably wouldn't have helped my cause if custom graphics were allowed anyways, I'd import some virtual grid kind of theme for blocks and square-shape a lot of things that way. :

Eppy already shown a few faults I had in the video he pulled. "Muncher Pit"s that had the munchers offscreen, soon after the player was told to start falling down, was a bad idea and should not have been placed as such. Another block higher or two would have been called for. Lacking a midpoint was possibly an issue as well, but as I stated in IRC after my post submit, Screen 0 just doesn't like midpoints. If I had planned ahead further, the factet would possibly not have happened.
As to comments on the judges. Bumps? I'm not sure as to what you mean specifically on this. Landmass, no. Enemy v. platforming, nada as well. And the starting-death aspect, what I believed was that a player would have enough time to react after hearing the shell sound effect, and on top of the pipe was a good place to retreat to. Was I wrong in this opinion? As to theme, I tried to use springboards and springbars more often than not, though I suppose I should have added more, then, if you felt it wasn't enough to call a theme. Running out of time? I did use the highest normally-allowed time limit SMW has, 400, but I assume that you took a springboard from the top of the second area and carried it all the way down. Note for self here, turn springboards into springbars if there's going to be a wall. And again, yes, bricks everywhere.

If there happens to have another contest later on, I won't rush my level like that again. If I start to run out of time, I'll just bail. If the latter of a level is going to bring down the former, I may be better off not poisoning my entry.

I have been waiting excitedly for the results for quite some time now!

It's also nice to see that I placed so well too, even though I did a few experimenting things with my level! Oh, and for those silly people that have been looking for the easter egg I mentioned... fly over the goal in the above ground section. :>

I assumed everyone here would crave a difficult level seeing as how we've all played SMW and retro platformers our entire lives. The origin of this forum itself exists because of SMW romhacking. Not having a guideline or specific contest rules made me just make something at random. I ended just making something that "I" like to play. I guess I assumed wrong.

The judges found my level too difficult and long. Although their comments about having to wait for enemies to bounce on seems kinda weird. Is this a race to finish levels as quickly as possible? Waiting for a couple secs for a fun enemy bounce is frowned on? Regardless, now knowing what SMW hack judges like and don't like, I will try to make something better with all their opinions taken into account.

It was very cool to participate in this contest and I really hope this becomes a regular thing seeing as how it gets creative juices flowing. Thanks for running this Darkdata!

Actually, it was LM 1.70 that broke it. My level had to be made with 1.65.

It was a fun contest. I was somewhat expecting to see more numbers/feedback about the level but this was still pretty fun. Will we see more contests like this in future?

Considering what I saw of this contest, I think more contests could definitely be a thing. Maybe I'll participate more than actually just watching the thing

Maybe not Mario specifically, but there's a lot of fairly popular (and accessible) games that have the potential to make for a good contest like this.

Although I didn't do much better than "ok," I'm still glad that I got feedback on my level and proud of myself for actually going through with entering in the contest. Considering that I was teaching myself as I went, and my level was based simply on experiences I've had with other hacks and levels, I'd say that I did pretty well. I'd have to agree with the judges on pretty much everything said; my only excuse being that I was afraid to tamper with the castle palette, instead leaving it the strange green. Just pretend that everything is covered in moss or something I dunno

Well this was a fun little contest. I do agree with the good points and bad points about my level and I'm glad you understand why all of those edges exist in an ice level. 75% (79% if graded on a curve) isn't bad at all for a first serious attempt at a SMW level.

If you're going to put them all together in A ROM hack, can I submit an updated IPS? I fixed a few issues already, thanks.
