I just call it "handegg" because I think it's funny, I guess. I'd say an American football is more egg-shaped than ball-shaped, at least.

Football: the sport in which you throw something that is not a ball with something that is not your foot.

Apparently, the reason football is called football is because it isn't played on horses...

Though now I wonder if you could.

I take it that at one time, a lot of sports were played on horses?

I think it was more of a class thing- the upper class played polo on their horses, whereas the lower class had to play "foot-ball".

Of course.

Jousting, Equestrian, Showjumping, Polo.

Heaps of sport have their roots in horseback riding.

Handfootball sounds funnier anyway.

It's sort of a joke, as far as I know.

Since Football often steals the name of Soccer, when in most of the world people call football "American Football" instead.

It's a linguistic oddity, though, for sure. And shows just how little non-Football and non-baseball sports are valued here.

Yeah, and people here don't care much for others who dislike football. Wacky, really, since it's just a sport. Not a way of life. Especially American football, since it doesn't have the same worldwide fandom like Soccer does.

Actually, it amuses me to no end that the 'International Baseball League' is essentially Japan Vs USA.

Yeah, there's at least some Latin American baseball, at least we wind up poaching a lot of their players.

We get players from Japan too... I don't think I heard of it going the other way around in either direction, though.

Reminds me of various tiny airports in Michigan near the US-Canada border that would bill themselves as "International" airports. Even though they were typically like one runway big enough for tiny private planes. I guess if you're close enough to another country, you're "international".

Yes, triple figures!

Anyway, I've always saw 'football' as the non-foot non-ball sport, and not 'soccer', but of course, some other call soccer football, and vice versa. It's just confusing to me at times.

Well, international means going from one country to a different country, so... Yeah.

Speaking of football, I'm getting curious into watching several CFL games.

Seriously, they need the CFL/NFL exhibition games to come back.

Land mines.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
