This is a thread for discussion of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I noticed there wasn't a thread about this amazing cartoon and after talking to some of the staff last week it was clear they were not too happy about the way threads about this series usually end up, so let's try not to get this closed. I am not making any 'rules' for posting in this thread simply because I don't know how to do that, so just keep it civil and not dumb.

Anyways, before watching this show, I hated it. I considered it just some dumb SA meme. Then somehow I was linked to this video:

Since I was bored and the video was SO CUTE I decided to give it a try. Boy, how I regret not watching it before. I was hooked from the first episode. I love the songs, the characters, the humor, the voice acting... I just can't think of anything I dislike about this cartoon! I usually hate cartoons made in Flash animation but the animation in MLP is fantastic.

Well anyways, I want to talk to people about this show and since there seems to be a lot of people on Jul who like it, please post in here! Let's discuss this amazing cartoon! I'd like to know how each of you got to know it and what you like about it, favorite characters, songs or whatever. Talk away!

I knew I was going to like ponies even before I started watching them, so I managed to put watching it off until last summer. But yeah, eventually I sat down and watched the whole thing.

It's kind of silly, but I don't really watch any other television or shows, so this gives me something to look toward every Saturday.

My favorite ponies include Twilight Sparkle and Apple Bloom.


Anyway, that video wouldn't really be a way I'd introduce somebody to the series, but it's good, I suppose.

I have trouble choosing my favorite pony.

I think Applejack is my least favorite pony but whenever she says "sugarcube" I am filled with this MOE energy.
Fluttershy would be my second least favorite pony but she sure has her moments that make me like her A LOT.
I can't get enough of Rarity whining, I could listen to it for hours non-stop. Initially I didn't like Rarity though, but her "fru-fru" accent made me fall in love.
And just like Rainbow Dash, I used to find Pinkie Pie extremely annoying, but she has the best songs. when her voice fails!
Twilight is simply too damn awesome to describe. Maybe because she is the less insane of them.

Too bad Rainbow Dash is 20% cooler! :3

I ended up getting into this because I saw more than a few people apparently enjoying it a lot, and since I'd never seen it (and, honestly, had somewhat avoided it for a bit), I figured I would at least view a couple of episodes and decide for myself.

So I watched the 2-part pilot, and didn't really "get into it". A couple people said I should at least watch the next few episodes before making a decision, since they were slice-of-life instead of arc-style. I ended up watching through to Return of Harmony Pt.2, and I've.. yeah, been watching ever since. And reading some of the fanfiction, because there are some honestly good fanfics written about the show (YMMV, of course).

Just go on YouTube and search for "My Little Pony season 1 episode 1." Hasbro lets all the episodes go on there without copyright issues (trolls notwithstanding)

I'll just ask before anything happens to please not talk about memes nor how much you hate them.

Anyways, I started watching season two a while ago. "Started watching" meaning just the two episodes about Discord. I loved how it played with Rarity being so incredibly easy to fool with greedyness given that IS her weak point, yet he pretty much has to forcibly manipulate Fluttershy.

But yeah, it is a great show. I honestly can't figure out a favorite episode, it used to be Dragonshy early on but some of the later S1 episodes were better. Pony though, well, it should be obvious.


Also the reason I got hooked on it to begin with was because of that one scene in Winter Wrap Up with Twilight and the animals and am not ashamed to admit it. Very first thing of the show I watched and it made me laugh.

I really liked the first 2 episodes because they were more adventure and less slice-of-life. Honestly, I expected more episodes to be like that, but sadly (for me) there are just a few. Still it didn't stop me from loving the show.

Also, I haven't read fanfics since 10 years ago when I first watched Card Captor Sakura, but for some reason I'm dying to read/see/experience as much more of this series as I can, so if you could tell me the name of good ones it'd be great!

I actually did watch the first episode, and parts of the 4th or 5th. It just didn't click with me. It seemed... unnatural to watch it.
