I guess it would be a bit surprising, considering that when I left in January I was rather... vehemently opposed to ponies... but anyway. It started with me laughing at this really awful pic with Sonic and Rainbow Dash on deviantART. I decided to look up some more pics under the Rainbow Dash search on dA, and... well, a lot of it WAS pretty bad, but mixed in there was some actually really good stuff. In the event that you ever do, it's generally advised to watch past the first two if you want to get a feel for the series, since the season openers are very different from the regular episodes.

I might as well suggest to start with season 2 rather then season 1.

While some episodes (Episode 3 4 ) may be a little off for new to the show, the production value and quality of everything is a lot better in season 2.

The reason episode 3 and 4 may be a bit weird is that, well, episode 4 was a return for Luna which many fans had been waiting a long time for during and after season 1. Episode 3 on the other hand is heavy with references to season 1 and injokes to those that have seen the first season, not to mention it's crazy in the action, if you can call it that.

I can understand that, it's very different from the rest of the show. I do think it's the worst of S2, though still good. But when lined up with S1, there are a quite a few episodes that I think are worse, such as, over the barrel and ticket master.

I think I'd recommend Dragonshy to a new watcher. It showcases all the main characters and the general feel very well.
Of course, that's to somebody who's interested but doesn't actually know what it's about, not for somebody who already "knows" they'll like it. (That's pretty much my case; I always figured I'd like ponies, but it took me a long time to actually get into it.)

Lauren Faust has a track record for making particularly well-developed shows, aimed at girls, where the characters are not the typical flat-character fare; MLP is no exception and the fact the characters have actual personalities versus roles is a big contributor to the popularity.

What else can you expect from one of the creative minds behind Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends?

As cutesy and adorable as the show is, the characters are well developed, the animation is smooth and cute, the writing is great, and at the same time, manages to teach valuable lessons about friendship that apply to not just little girls, but to everyone, really. Some of the characters even have mental breakdowns.



I avoid the fanfics, though. I try not to even read the descriptions anymore. Why do people make so many sad stories about them?

It's not democracy, it's DiGiorno.
The only fanfic I touched was some Portal crossover.

It was... an interesting experience. Actually I ended up liking it overall, though there were some things that were quite... off. But I blame not reading fanfics ever so I don't really know how do they usually go. But overall it was better than I expected.


Anyway, I still think MLP is like Touhou in a way. It is good, fans make some great things sometimes, but oh god the fandom.
