Looks fine, I just don't like the text box touching the left side. probably should be out a bit. Also the color scheme of the picture I think clashes with the text box color. Also, lots of empty space, but I guess you're trying to showcase that image in the background.

It's very big vertically, and having a auto-stretching background is kinda ugly.

Eh... Show how it behaves to vertical stretching posts, that would be interesting to see.

As long ago as this post is, really? Does it do that now, or was that an earlier revision?

EDIT: Oh shit, I just saw it! I have absolutely no idea how that happened. Time to fix.

EDIT: Ok, I forgot to remove the Post Background URL in my profile, so that's gone. But it seems that it won't update my previous posts, unless that takes some time?

I'm assuming you are talking to pi0x, and while I can't answer for him... it appears to just stretch the box to the bottom of the picture... and damn, can it hold a lot of text.

It's unlikely he'd ever make a big enough post to get to the point of the bottom of the original image... but if he somehow does, the image just repeats itself abruptley.

@legacyme3

I don't think that's what Girly was talking about.

The original image is here. pi0x set it to stretch to 100% to fill the entire box, so that it would look the same with all resolutions. With that picture, that's probably what I would have done too, since the picture isn't dynamic. That said, it'd probably look horrid for people with large resolutions.

On the layout itself...

I think it looks nice. I would change the text box color, because you're trying to mix some of the coolest colors with some of the warmest colors... the color scheme clashes.

It appears that I haven't posted in this thread asking for feedback on this layout.

I've had this layout for quite a while. It feels old to me, because I made this when I first started making layouts. For whatever reason it's always stuck with me. I suppose it's because it's pretty durable; a lot of my other layouts look weird in different resolutions or board themes... yet this seems to fit in everywhere.

What's that Mario sprite made out of, anyway? Looks like felt squares or something.

Also, mixing warm and cool can work. See all the examples of orange/cyan. They're complementary. Those colors are close to being complementary, but they're not quite, so it doesn't work. One would probably need to restrict the colors of the image, like making it greyscale but colored with the solid hue you want, then having the background of the text box the exact complement. Also having it translucent wouldn't be good, since you'll just get a muddy greyish in-between (I've seen stuff like this work but it's hard.).

I tried to port my layout from AB2, and it seems to have worked quite well.

My resolution for the record is 1366X768 (I think)

I just looked at the source again. Can't believe I missed that.

It seems to be better for shorter posts then? I figure if he wanted it to work for longer posts, he'd make the image fixed so it scrolls while you do.

Meh, layouts are far from a specialty for me

I um... updated somethings to my layout.

Only the textbox...

If it stretches past the size of the picture, the picture will just repeat, so it wont be *that* bad, would it?

It still looks rather ugly and pixelated when stretched like that.

And a repeating picture looks kinda bleh too, unless it repeats well.

And on that note, I just made a small small change to my layout. It's something that bugged me a little personally, but I don't think you guys have seen or thought of it.

The original resolution for the image is just too small to work, though, so he has no choice but to resize it. Though maybe resizing on an external program would make it less pixelated or something.

The background seems tall enough for it being fixed. Then it wouldn't repeat.

I'd TL;DR it as simply not being a picture very fit for a layout. :I

Much better.

What's the background picture of? They look like colored sugarcubes, or something.

Girlydragon suggested to me that I flip my layout. So I tried it.

Which do you guys prefer?

It's like a green/yellow gradient, but in like little blocks.

If you could see the whole image, you would see the block styled gradient. It's really cool

I suggest you use a transparent PNG as the background for your post box, instead of RGBA. The latter can cause severe lag on a lot of computers (even on my 3.2 GHz machine, scrolling through your posts eats up 65-70% of my CPU).
