When I was little, I used to think the year started in September because that's when school started. In a way, the year still feels like it's just starting in September. So for all of you trained to think of September as a beginning, how's this secondary "new year" going to look for you? Anything you're looking forward to this month? :J

There's no start of a new year once you have a job and kids. It just all blends together between birthdays and Christmas. But September is a good month. It means the worst of the heat is over and in about 2-3 weeks it'll not feel like an oven outside. Also, there's only one month left before my wife's birthday. Last year she turned 21 and we had a fun, long night of gambling at the Red Rock Casino and stayed in a suite. Luckily I won't have to top that because it's a "special year"

I always thought it was odd when people went back to school in September. My nephews haven't even started school yet/ I think they go back next week.

You see, here, school starts in August, so I never thought of September as the start of a new year.

Yeah, I've gone to many schools in several states. Some start in August and other in September. I think Oklahoma was August, as well.

Schools in Michigan started in August, but in New York and New Jersey they started in September. So when we moved to Michigan in 1997, I was rather bummed at how early the school year started. (Of course, it also ended earlier.)

Most non-college schools here in California seem to start in late August.

While I did move into my dorm in late August, I don't start classes until today, so maybe college is different here?

I'm totally chill with September. But that's because it's the month of my birthday!~

It did always annoy me though that schools here opened within the span of my birthday. (Like they switch between three days, always 5th, 6th, or 7th as the first day.)
We also have the Portland Pirate Festival to look forward to this year! At the same time kind of sad 'cause I'll be missing Kumoricon just to run the shop..

I always started grade school the Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day, while colleges start the Mondays before (usually the Monday before Labor Day or two before Labor Day)

this. though according to my sister, the school year got pushed back another whole week due to...whatever nonsense is going on with y'all's weather. I don't know crap about California so don't even ask me. Texas was probably September if I'm remembering correctly...not like I hung out with that many high schoolers during my brief stint there

Both me and my sister start the school year in late August. I always thought it was weird how there was such a difference between the start of the school year in different parts of the US.
