Man this summer really has had a big impact on my life. But undoubtedly the event that changed it the most for me happened just last Friday. So me and a friend were driving up to his cottage. Just the two of us in his car. My friend was driving. We were just having fun riding up north together like it was nothing. So were out on this little country road right, and we pulled up to a stop sign. We stopped, and swear to God no one was there. So naturally we pulled up and then BOOM, we got t-boned by a huge ass ford pickup truck. We went into a ditch. We both have no injuries or anything besides a bruise or two, but they still took my friend to the hospital. Namely because he told the EMTs that he had a headache so they wanted to make sure he didn't get whiplash or anything. After all, the truck did hit the driver's side, so I was virtually unharmed and he was the top priority. About three hours after the initial hit we were walking out of that hospital and on with our lives.

We may have left unharmed, though my friend's Lincoln Continental Pimpmobile got totaled. It was a really nice car too. His Gibson SG Standard was in the trunk and of course is broken up pretty good. (NES held up in the trunk okay though) The whole experience made me realize that I could be dead right now had it not been for the specific way the truck hit us. It really makes you appreciate the life you have. So, have you guys ever had any near death experiences you'd be willing to share?

Here's a picture of the car after the crash, incase you were interested.

LEt's see.

In Elementary school, a kid with similar intelligence to me and a bunch of goons on his side sneak attacked me in the classroom with Linkercube hammers, then tried to choke me to death. I saw a white light, then I went "Screw that" and kicked him in the groin, injuring him pretty badly.

Next up, multiple ear infections, I got myself some hideous fevers and hallucinated stuff with a 104 degree or so fever. Not sure if it was near death but I was pretty screwed up there and didn't feel very alive.

Norovirus: Felt absolutely horrible, unable to even move much, I don't like football but I was so weak I turned on the TV to the superbowl and was a prisoner in my chair watching parts of it until hours later I managed to turn the TV off.

I was in a whitewater raft on a 3+ rapid--and it was my first time ever rafting--and we saw the raft in front of us flip over. Then WE almost flipped over. I rescued a woman out of the water, then the people from the boat in front of us nearly flipped US over due to their scared 14 year old girl standing up in the boat.

I went "Screw this" and stabbed the rock we were stuck on with an oar, and we pushed free. Then we told the girl and her family to go wait on the shore. Her father broke a leg from the experience, I could see the bone poking out, it was pretty bad.

Then I was hiking in the mountains and got horribly dehydrated and nearly passed out. This happened again in the desert a bit later. That wasn't any good either.

Then I was inside an abandoned gold plant and nearly fell off a 20-30 foot drop. Needless to say it wasn't good.

Another time I was hanging off the side of a mountain with no safety equipment... good thing I didn't slip.

Yet another time a massive lumber truck came barreling after me and I had to run away from it... stupid Wyoming.

There's also been three people who died shortly after I first met them. Those sort of weigh on my soul as well.

So, yeah. I've had a lot of experiences. I'm pretty sure I'm only here because of... ...magic? Pixie dust? Eye lasers? I'm just lucky, I guess.

Closest I've come to actually dying was when I was 15 and got a kidney infection. My fever spiked to 105 at one point and I was in extreme pain. Thankfully the antibiotics I was prescribed (apparently I had E. coli in my kidneys) cleared it up.

I also was almost involved in a horrific car accident. My mom and I were driving home from a psychiatrist visit, and a car spun out right in front of us. Amazingly we were able to stop in time.

Finally, I happened to be in London for the 2005 London bombings. To make things even scarier, if we had been on time for our train (one kid was late getting up and such), we would've been on one of the bombed trains.

My closest that I can remember is probably when I fell asleep in the passenger seat of my friend's car-- we were on our way back from a road trip-- and woke up to an airbag in my face. We were all okay, though.

Not sure how near-death this is, but I fell into the island in our kitchen, the corner hitting my neck square in the middle.
Pretty sure if the wheels were locked, something much worse than a bruise would have happened.

My deepest condolences. I've got a Lincoln Continental as well (from 1976, to boot!) and they're easily the best cars I've ever driven.

As far as me, I lost consciousness after giving birth to my daughter. The blood vessels that attached to where the placenta used to be didn't shut down afterward, so I nearly bled to death. The hospital staff told me that if the head doctor didn't demand it, they wouldn't have had a blood infusion on standby and I wouldn't be sitting here today.

I don't think I had any actual for serious near death experiences outright aside from thinking I was dying whenever I had a fever.

I was kind of near a hypothetical death though. All I know is that if the social worker at school did not take my letter seriously, or my mom did not take her advice that I needed to get admitted to a hospital ASAP, then something drastic would have happened that could've hypothetically kill me.

I got in a pretty bad car accident when I was yyoung. I broke both of my legs and from what I've heard, there were other internal injjuries, and that the doctors weren't confident that I'd survive, but I did, and I'm almost 100%. I can walk and stuff normally, only trouble is occasional soreness in my left knee.

I was pretty young, probably about 7, when my "uncle" (Not actually my Dads brother, but might as well be) took me mountain climbing. There was still ice on the mountain, and there was a section that we had to step over that was iced over and on the outside face, hanging high over plenty of sharp spiky rocks. I really didn't want to step over it without a rope, but he assured me I would be fine.

Nope.

Lost my footing, foot landed on the ice, slipped off the mountain...only to be caught by him midair by my wrist.

Shit was crazy :|

Was riding down a rather steep street on my bike when I was 13 or so, when I hit a serious dent/hole in the road. I don't remember the accident exactly, but the bike toppled over, I flew over the handlebars and landed head first on the ground. A passerby called an ambulance, I got to the hospital, wasn't diagnosed with any serious injuries but had to stay overnight (during which I could not sleep at all; I distinctly remember thinking stuff like "school's starting right about now" when it was 7:45 am or whenever).

Only later, and only through my mother I learned that, if I had not worn a helmet that day, I would have likely sustained severe head injuries and died.

Not an accident, but I did probably neared death quite a bit when I got sick with dengue fever. I fainted over dehydration once, woke up in a hospital being rehydrated intravenously, and then I was told to avoid as much physical activity as possible for 30 days and drink as much liquids as I could.

I ended up getting it again many years later, but it was much less severe.

I've had one or two close shaves in the past. when I was only 3 years old my head was nearly crushed by a van in a busy town centre (I tripped on the crossing) early on this year I was shot in the lower torso outside my own home and was lucky to survive that and just recently I was nearly crushed by a toppling tree.

Fortunately I've been spared from most of these. I've had a shitty fever that kept me awake the entire night, as I was shivering in pain. Felt like dying that night.

I once slipped in our backyard when I was coming back from taking garbage out. I landed on my back and paralyzed my breathing for a brief moment. That was scary as hell, gaping for air, but your lungs aren't answering.

Last one, not exactly my near death experience, but back when I was in the army last year keeping an eye on the patients in the infirmary during the weekend. One of the patients (a guy who I knew from our town) got convulsions and complained that his chest was burning. Naturally, we instantly took the army ambulance and headed to a major hospital out there.

The entire time I sat in the back keeping company to the guy, who was begging me that I won't let him die. I reassured he's not going to die, kept him steady etc. Luckily it wasn't anything major, but it sure scared the hell out of us all.

So yeah.

I've done that before. I forget why the lungs freeze up when you're hit on the back hard enough. I think it just causes the muscle to spasm and take some time to return to normal.

Forgot about one!

When I was...16, I think, I decided to get high as fuck off of caffeine. I attempted this by downing a 32-ounce Monster and an entire bottle of Redline (which, incidentally, is age-restricted in some areas due to its caffeine content). I didn't get high (or die, obviously), but I did feel very, very sick, and was kind of puking my guts out.

I've had a few in my life. Not going to go into much detail, however...

1. Almost drowned in a wave pool at Six Flags

2. Almost drowned at the beach because of an undertow

3. Extremely bad asthma attacks

4. Several car accidents that should have done more damage or worse to me

5. Almost fell out of Space Mountain when I was a kid

6. Almost got a hit by a car (a few times) while on my bike

7. A semi carrying gas blew up seconds before I was at its location

I was in a car accident when I was 13. My mom and I went down to Florida for Spring break. We were living in Oklahoma at the time and my brother that lived in Florida was driving us back and was going to visit for a while. In Mississippi, my mom was driving my brother's Ford Bronco and the tire tread blew off. They were Firestone tires, the ones that were faulty and the huge recall way back. We got sideways at 70mph and rolled at least 3 times. I was unbuckled in the back seat laying down when it happened. I was lucky not to be ejected out the window during the rolling. We landed upside down and I was laying on the ceiling of the car right between my mom and my brother. I was able to shut the engine off and help my mom get out. My knee must have smashed the window because I had a big hole in it and glass all inside. I don't really remember too much what it looked like because after we crawled out, my brother put a blanket on it to stop any bleeding. He only had a torn ligament in his shoulder and a bruise on his knee. My mom hit her head on the dome light and it actually split her scalp from front to back. It could have been a lot worse but thankfully we all were released from the hospital withing 48 hours.

Just recently, I witnessed and was almost involved in a bad accident. If I had pulled out quickly without checking, the speeding car could have hit us.
