GameStop and Best Buy were it. GameStop was next to impossible to get a pre-order. I heard that their payment system wasn't working right and people accidentally got double or triple orders without being charged. Best Buy on the other hand had a 1h window. They're unlikely to cancel any orders and because they didn't have a hard limit on how many you could buy.

Target and Wal-Mart still haven't said whether they're carrying the Majora's Mask LE yet. Monster Hunter one was GameStop exclusive and that took a little longer to sell out. Ehh, NewEgg only carries the standard editions. Sears/K-Mart are unlikely to carry it at all with their gaming clearances.

"Sold Out online" means that they've exhausted their warehouse inventory or whatever they're expecting to get in before they take any more orders. GameStop isn't getting Monster Hunter systems in-stores (very limited locations) ... Majora's Mask LE might be the same. BB stores may get a few? Who knows. This system might be more available or it could be Animal Crossing bundle or Pikachu XL style limited.

So my options are either to get the standard edition or shell out $$$$ for a used LE then? I might consider the latter if this doesn't turn into "the hot thing for everyone to play for 5 minutes and then never again".

What does the LE contain anyway, other than the Skull Kid figurine?

Basically.

The Majora's Mask system doesn't come with anything. The Majora's Mask LE game (sold out a week or two ago) had the game and the Skull Kid statue.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate system comes the MH4U game preinstalled. None of the systems, including the regular ones, come with a wall adapter. Thanks Nintendo.

There's a region free 3DS exploit out now.

Works pretty nicely for any game that doesn't require region specific patches (E.g. Smash), but playing Eu games on my import 3DS XL is quite nice. Got me playing DKCR3D again.

While the system sounds appealing I don't need/can't allocate money toward another 3DS right now :/

You might want to look into buying a Circle Pad Pro. Majora's Mask is compatible with it if you want to try out the free camera controls.

I'm happy that there was a workaround found. Region locking is straight up bullshit. The only thing that sucks is that there doesn't appear to be a way to connect to the eShop for older firmware versions. It's a guarantee that there will be a patch to block this exploit just as there was a patch to block ninjhax.

Yeah, I expect that a system revision will fix the exploit - it's tied to the web browser and also enables flashcards for those that use them. I don't expect it to stay for long.

Well ok. I'm not going to say that the shutting down of the spotpass feature in Swapnote wasn't lazy nor was it the best solution for all the consumers involved. The reason Nintendo did that was because they didn't want to deal with people receiving inappropriate messages at all so they pulled the plug. If you ask me, the responsibility of what messages are received lied with each person who used the feature, not Nintendo. I never used Spotpass but you obviously have to give out your friend code for people to send stuff to you. It's not like you would receive stuff randomly from people. If you then say, what if it is a child who knows know better spreading his/her friend code? I'd then say that there should have been a way to disable the spotpass feature for Swapnote via parental controls. It then throws the responsibility onto the parents.

In any case, the region free exploit has to do with some vulnerability in download play or the web browser. It shouldn't be hard for Nintendo to figure out what that vulnerability is and patch it instead of just disabling the use of the web browser or download play.

Nothing about the new StreetPass Mii Plaza games?

Not gonna bother to describe them, they're kinda old news by now plus you can have them described for you in the plaza itself if you try to buy 'em. They're very fun though! I've been particularly enamored with Ultimate Angler and have been working on a spreadsheet with all the fish and their details, so if you do end up buying 'em (and I definitely recommend them!) then this should help you out (still a work-in-progress).
