I remember fooling around with DOS's prompt command as a youngster. Once I got this really long prompt that took up most of the screen's width and had stuff like the date, time, and DOS version in it

That's from acmlm.rustedlogic.net, but I've used the same thing (with different colors) at work ... $PS2 stayed at the default "> " since I didn't even know about it


My Windows command prompt is the default $p$g, or sometimes $g if I'm doing something in one directory and want to keep it short ... and I use a 6x8 font (yellow on blue like above), but had Press Start K for years before

Can we post about prompt code that's broken, too?

'\e[0;32m\][\e[1;37m\]\u\e[0;34m\]@\e[1;37m\]\h\e[0;37m\] \W\e[0;32m\]]\e[0;37m\]\$ ' - this is my prompt's supposed code. I can't see where it's supposed to fail.

[bloodstar@cerise ~]$ (text entered is this color too)is what I'm trying to shoot for, but it's just not working. It was at one point, but at a certain length it would just loop around and overwrite the actual prompt itself.

So yeah, I'm baffled.

I got your command line to look correct on here by changing the control codes to the style I have but I had the same problem. Honestly, I have the same problem with my own prompt code.

EDIT: Fixed mine:

The number is the history index, so I could do !506 to recall this command, but I never use that anyway. It also displays the return value from the previous command if not zero (and the error message associated, which is largely useless because nothing actually returns error message numbers).

I keep three terminals at the bottom of my right screen, all 80x25 with at least two tabs. One usually has the interactive Lua interpreter running for quick calculations and tests. The windows are pretty minimalistic having only the tabs and scrollbar with semi-opaque black background.
