Heard about this sometime last week.

Fox didn't do the research on who to consult. Look up Lieberman's book on Amazon; it basically says "women should be objects, not people" -- some of the reviews are hilarious.

One more reason to get Bulletstorm, I guess.

Bulletstorm made the very popular Duty Calls video that completely told modern FPS games to fuck off.

Bulletstorm looks like a total blast.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), rates all video games as a guide for parents; each game carries a letter-label at retail (T for Teen, M for Mature) and an online-only summary. Lieberman and others say it's useless, because it isn't enforced at retail.

Enforcement would work if parents weren't fucking dumb. I will not let my children play such games until they get old enough AND mature enough. That's how a responsible parent should act.

The game itself is probably too much for me. I don't really need a hyper-gory shooter, as interesting as it sounds.

That's... sort of how my parents were. Age wasn't important, but maturity was. They also made sure to watch and sometimes even play any games they weren't sure of.

In fact, when my grandmother got me Doom 64 many many years ago, mom played it more than I did...

But yeah. Parents need to be responsible about it. And I don't know about where Liarman lives, but I've been carded a couple times at the Gamestop here in town, even though I'm in there often enough half of 'em probably know my birthday by heart.

True, a lot of parents don't pay attention to what they buy their kids and what their kids play, but the quote is stupid for a different reason. Last I heard, I'm pretty sure most (if not all) game stores won't sell M-rated games to kids.

Ignorant parents buying gorey games for their 12-year-old is a different issue altogether, and you can't fault the ESRB for poor parenting.

All the game stores I have been to have security protocols for game sales. Anything teen and up you need to prove you're old enough. Anything Mature and up you need to have a valid State ID or Driver's License.

Their cashier systems also beep very loudly when someone's buying a game rated M. The entire store goes quiet, it is that loud.

I thought the point of the rating system was to make it so that parents would make informed decisions on buying a game based on it's content, not serve as a restrictor.

I don't know why everybody blames the game creators for kids playing it. The only people who are a fault for it are the irresponsible parents of the kids. If parents believe that thier kid is ready for a game, then they should be allowed to buy it.

True. I worked at a local movie theater over the summer and there were always underaged kids walking in with random adults or their grandparents just to see R rated movies. Most of the employees were retards and did nothing about it, I always called the kids out, and when I did, their asses got kicked out.

It does both. It's the same as the movie ratings as Zild brings up. If there is content that kids shouldn't really be seeing and parents don't want them to see it, what would be the point if any kid could waltz into the store and buy the game themself? Restricting access to it is only logical as an extension of what the ratings mean.
