That's right, Jul is about to acquire a new game show, The Price is Right! I will not be hosting it; rather, Jul TPIR will be run by YK. He asked me to make a thread to determine how many people would be interested. We will need 9 contestants total per episode. So if you're interested, go ahead and post in this thread saying that you want to play The Price is Right

I will be signing up myself.

Edit: This thread will be for signups and general Jul TPIR discussion only. Episodes will get their own threads. We have everyone we need for Episode 1 right now and we are currently no longer taking signups. Soon, we will allow for signups for Episode 2.

Sure thing, but YK has to cosplay as Bob Barker.

If you want some graphics, don't hesitate to ask

(And if you need some Excel spreadsheet templates to help keep track of everything, let me know. I work with Excel all day and can work miracles with it)

Does that mean you're signing up, Orlandu?

The disadvantage of graphics is that if the image server goes down, the thread will become hard to follow, like what happened with Frank15's I1 episodes. YK would probably be able to use the templates though, if he doesn't have any of his own

I understand. Could always use an image host, such as photobucket or the likes.

But yeah, I'll sign up. How many contestants are there going to be? The typical 4 at first?

We'll be signing all 9 up at the beginning to avoid lengthy delays trying to get more contestants I'm not sure what YK will do if more than 9 people sign up, if he'll go randomly or just use the first 9.

Because we don't have to adhere strictly to TPiR as it currently is, there are a few things I'm going to note before we start:

1) Let's face it: Nearly everyone prefers Bob Barker as the host, so we'll be doing "Barker-era" TPiR.

2) Retired games? That is a meaningless term here! As far as I'm concerned, old favorites can and will still be active. So far, we've decided, at the very least, Penny Ante, Super Saver, Buy or Sell, Hit Me, Barker's Bargain Bar, and Split Decision will be making a comeback on "Jul TPiR". Only some really stupid/gimmicky failures will be excluded, sich as Bullseye 72, Double Digits, On the Nose, and of course, the infamous Professor Price. If there are any retired games you'd like to see played, by all means, let me know! Likewise, if there's a current pricing game everyone wants *gone*, I'll consider that, too.

3) I'd like to include as many potential pricing games as possible, but I can think of no text-only way to do the following games:

-Hole in One
-Plinko
-Super Ball!!
-Anything involving time limits (Switcheroo, Race Game, Bonkers, Clock Game)

Some games would *work* in text, but kinda lose some appeal without the props:
-Cliffhangers
-Balance Game ('06)
-Let 'em Roll
-Rat Race
-Hurdles

If anyone can think of ways to implement those games, I'd love to hear it. Maybe some simple Flash games or something? Dunno. Anyhow, I'm glad to see there's a fair bit of interest. I'll try to get a game started within the next week.

I have an idea for Plinko. Use a random number generator 1-3.

|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|

1,7 - $10
2,6 - $100
3,5 - $1,000
4 - $10,000

Pick a starting position. Say you pick position 2.

|_|0|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|

Random number 1-3 is 3, so it moves down and right one space.

|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|0|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|

Next is 2 so it goes straight down:

|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|0|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|

Next is 3 so it goes down and right again:

|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|0|_|_|_|
|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|

Lastly you get a 1 so it goes left one space:

|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|1|2|0|4|5|6|7|

and you win $1,000. Naturally you wouldn't have to do this one post or turn at a time. Just have them select a starting position, do all 4 random numbers 1-3. If its on the right side, 1 is straight down, 2 is right one, 3 is right 2, and vice versa for the left side. So the result would look like this:

|_|0|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|0|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|0|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|0|_|_|_|
|1|2|0|4|5|6|7|

OK, this will be the TPIR signups and discussion thread, so I went ahead and stickied the thread and modified the title to something more appropriate

All right! I've got everything nearly set up, so Jul TPiR will begin tomorrow, so I figured I'd set some rules here...

In general, the contestant order will be the same as the order in which people signed up. As such, the "First Four" will be...

-Ketsuban
-Illumina
-Rick
-Auxiliatrix

...with the additional contestants called after each pricing game being, in order:

-Anya
-Orlandu
-Terra
-Imajin
-Arp1033

I'll try to replicate the show as closely as possible, meaning the format will still be:

-Three pricing games
-Showcase Showdown #1
-Three more pricing games
-Showcase Showdown #2
-Showcases

With, of course, bidding on a single prize preceding each pricing game. In general, the rules will be the same in pricing games as they are on the actual show; exceptions will be made to allow games to flow more smoothly, but I'll deal with those on a case-by-case basis, as there are somewhere around ~80 pricing games to deal with.

Because there are only six games, three contestants will not end up "on stage"; in this case, these three will automatically become part of the "first four" in the next "episode". You're welcome to join as often as you wish, although to keep things fair, unless it turns out that we have far fewer participants than slots needed to fill, you won't be able to participate in the next "episode" if you're called to play a pricing game, win or lose.

In regards to products... grocery products, small prizes, and bonus prizes are going to be kept "generic", although in the general price range of what the products would actually be. As a result, if you're familiar with TPiR, you'll have some idea of what to expect, but this is primarily to prevent people from using Google, Wikipedia, or other websites to cheat.

Miscellaneous TPiR rules that will be in play:
-If everyone overbids in Contestants' Row, the usual rules apply: The current bids are erased, and the contestants will be asked to bid again, below the lowest given bid.
-You will still receive a $500 bonus for making a perfect bid in Contestants' Row.
-The Showcase Showdown is strictly Barker-era: $1,000 for hitting a dollar in one spin or a combination of two spins. During the bonus spin, $5,000 for hitting 5 or 15, and $10,000 for hitting a dollar again. In the event of a tie, spinoffs will be played as normal, with each contestant getting a single spin.
-During the Showcase, the standard "$250 or less" rule for a double Showcase win applies.

And... I'll be keeping a running total of the top ten winners. That about covers the basics. Questions, comments, suggestions, etc. are welcome.

Technically I was the first person to sign up, before Ketsuban. Then again, I made the thread, so you could consider that cheating Frank15 would call people down randomly, BTW.

Wny make the list of winners stop at the top 10? I track everyone who has ever won anything in Jul Wheel of Fortune, and I continue to do so

Nice try! You've already played two games of Price is Right on IRC, though, so you can wait your turn.

Well, I'm not Frank15, now am I?
First-come, first-serve is how I'm gonna do it.........for now, at least. Let's see if it works.

Good idea. Things that will count towards your total winnings: Items up for bids, perfect bid bonuses, small prizes won in pricing games, bonus prizes/cash won from pricing games, extra little bonuses won in pricing games (the $500 in Hole in One, Shell Game, and Barker's Markers, for instance... or that leftover $1-6 you may have if you win Lucky Seven ), any money won on the Showcase Showdown, and the Showcases.

Also, I'll keep two tallies: Most won overall, and most won in a single "episode". (Hell, Illumina won over $85k in cash and prizes on the second IRC Frontier Price is Right... too bad it won't carry over. )

It's fine, I don't mind waiting

And the reason I mentioned the random thing was more that it would mimic the real show more, with people not knowing what order they would end up being selected, I guess. But do what you want. It's your show, not mine

Sorry if I seem too domineering or something. I guess I'm too excited over the prospect of Jul TPIR and want it to be as good as it can be Basically, do what you want. I'm just here to provide suggestions (and close old episode threads).

Just to stir up some random interest... I'm planning to use graphics for certain pricing games (possibly all of them, if this gets popular enough). For now, here are a few mockups I've done thus far (though not all of them will be used in the first "episode").
