I had more Ameraucana eggs today but this time I simply fried them in higher heat for the crispy bottom texture and only added salt and some chives as garnish so I could have the taste as raw as possible. The yolk was not only absolutely delicious but visually it was also very pretty, large and deep in color.

The first egg was eaten plain with a side of some maple sausages and some brown rice, but the second was flavored with a soy sauce packet I still had lying around in the refrigerator. I never really liked soy sauce when I was little because I felt the flavor was too strange, too oriental, but lately I've come to appreciate it more and more. Sometimes that little extra Asianness makes that much of a difference and yummy delights like dumplings or sushi aren't quite the same without that extra condiment to dip into.

I know I said I'd use the eggs to make scrambled eggs for yesterday but I had a friend over for breakfast and I didn't feel like using up my super special eggs yet so I ended up using some regular brown eggs. As rich as these eggs are, I'm thinking of soft-boiling them tomorrow and skipping the scrambled experience altogether. There is no better way to enjoy the very special yummy taste of an egg than by having it soft-boiled.

There was no soundtrack to this breakfast, but Sofi kept thinking of the Elvis Costello song β€œAllison”.

Welcome to Eating Topic post #1000.

I just tried a mango for the first time. It was good, but I didn't care for the aftertaste and I probably won't have it again.

I love mangos, they're so good!

Lunch was not what I predicted, instead of halal food, I had a sesame pancake with peking duck and hoisin sauce, and eight dumplings All that for $4.25! Gotta love NYC chinatown.

Dinner was a margherita pizza, and dessert is a bunch of grapes.

I went out for dinner today to Chili's and had chicken fajitas... Chili's has really good chicken, in my opinion.

I just soft-boiled some brown not-Ameraucana eggs I had lying around in the fridge as a quasi-midnight snack. I know that means I've eaten lots of eggs today but whatever. It was pretty good, but now I'm also pretty sure I want to scramble my Ameraucana eggs tomorrow instead.

Project "empty out the fridge so I can move to my new apartment" progress is at present purely positive.

But eggs will kill your cholesterol and blah blah blah!

Cheese and crackers. Hungry but not in the mood for junk food. Although if I'm still hungry after this, there ARE brownies...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're not telling me anything I don't know, Mr. Greenie McCanuck! I made a post about that in this very topic, actually, a while back explaining how I'm aware of the cholesterol but flat out didn't care. :J

People have all sorts of vices, like, in terms of self-destructive behaviorβ€”some people smoke, some people drink excessively, some people enjoy banging their head into walls, but I enjoy the fine, fine taste of eggs in its many forms, and between a compulsive wall-banger and an egg cognoscente, well, do I need to say any more?

So, we're having a family cook-out thingy here, and for dinner I had a bison burger- I hadn't had bison before, but it's actually pretty tasty... of course, it's very similar to cow in taste.

Cracker sandwiches made of turkey pepperoni, cheese, and Florida avocado.

Florida avocado's okay, but I like the Haas Avocados better.

Good thing that there's so many different ways to cook eggs then.

(hence the "blah blah blah" part because I'm not telling you anything you don't already know and at least a few eggs a day is PROBABLY better than eating fast food every day. I think.)

I just had a Steak Neptune. I didn't think that Fillet Mignon, crab meat, and hollandaise sauce would taste good together, but I was wrong. I can't remember the last time I had something that good.

Where did you find a Steak Neptune, CB? Those sound so delicious and I really really want to try one now.

I had the usual for breakfast today plus some really really awful generic supermarket bacon that takes pride in being ready to eat within 20 seconds (ew). I'm still in transition-to-new-home-keeping-food-supplies-low mode right now, so I have to get by with this. I'm thinking of heading off for some nice sushi for lunch, though. :9

The only place where I've ever had one is at a steak bar here in Calgary. I know that there are recipies on the net though if you want to try making it yourself.

Back to the Basics

Okay, so, for the past two days I've been super-busy moving to and from the new apartment. We totally got everything over in the wonderful new place only to find out that the toilet and shower were broken so now I'm back in my grandmother's apartment in Fenway, most of my cooking supplies and herbs and spices gone, and I have to fry my eggs in a mysterious bottle of canola oil that just suddenly appeared on my kitchen counter and season only with salt from an adorable diner-style saltshaker hiding away in the cupboards.

The eggs were fried on a cold pan over medium low heat until the egg whites started to turn white and then salted and then the heat was turned to medium high until the eggs started sizzling and I let it sizzle for a while before I turned it back down to medium. I had sausages, too, which were made in a pot, the only thing I really had around to fry it with, and then after all the water evaporated, they were transferred to the now-empty omelet pan and fried in the leftover canola oil for a nice brown exterior.

The faint flavor of canola oil isn't appealing to everyone, but to me, it's reminiscent of summers in Cape Cod when our then-vacation home only stocked canola oil for frying. The texture of the finished product is ever-so-slightly different from the texture of my new oil friends sunflower and safflower. Moreover, it's been just too long since I've had eggs with salt and nothing else and the pure, unadulterated flavor of eggs is very much something to be enjoyed.

So here we are going back to the basics, away from the sunny side eggs fried in safflower oil and generously seasoned with chives, paprika, ground black pepper and sea salt and maybe soy sauce. My days in a lakeside cottage in Cape Cod were almost universally awful and filled with bugs but they were saved by wonderfully delicious food. Food out there tasted better for some reason. Perhaps canola oil is the reason why.

On my mind: β€œNo Dancing” by Elvis Costello

I've never met anyone so religious about cooking/food, Sofi.

Today I had tangerines for breakfast, and rice with half a can of Progresso beef and barley soup for lunch. Yum

Half of it is so I can show off my flowery diction. :J

I went to a local place called Tasty Burger again and got a Gorgonzola burger. Pretty great stuff!

Just a few tangerines that my boyfriend got me. I have to finish them soon, he had them for a few days already, so I'm afraid they might go bad soon. :/

I have to finish all the food that expires soon, since I'm leaving the state for 11 days, woo!

Porkchops that were from Publix, without any bread crumbs. They had bones so they were a pain in the ass to finish.
