Oh sweet.

Are they as crispy as everyone says they are? The crispy texture is what makes pan-fried dumplings worth eating. I can't stand steamed ones.

Are these actually regular-sized?

Yup, they're crispy, amazingly good, regular-sized, and the best dumplings I have ever had. (literally)

My boyfriend (who's Chinese and quite a food critic ) says the dumplings were the best he had ever had. The only warning I can give you is: beware, it's going to be crowded.

Oh my god, I need to go there.

I need to move to New York so I could have $1 dumplings.

I'm really new to the dumpling world because most of the ones we had at home were really awful except for the ones this nanny we had made. She'd roll up the world's smallest dumplings and they were de-li-cious.

It's great that my boyfriend lives in NYC now, I can now visit NYC a lot more often. In fact, I might be going there next weekend, and before I come back, I plan to stop at Prosperity Dumpling and buy about 20 of them.

I am feeling a bit hungry right now so I think I'm going to open a can of applesauce.

Just dish out $18 and put 100 frozen ones in a cooler with an ice pack and go home. Then you can have dumplings forever. :J

I decided to go for the applesauce since I wasn't too hungry. Around 7 or 8 I might eat some clam chowder or something.

Clam chowder, eh? It better not have tomatoes in it.

I just had a cup of noodles. I'm basically out of food right now but I'm not going to buy anything more because I'm moving next week. The noodles were Nissin brand, the spicy kind, and it comes with a vegetable packet and an extra-spicy sauce packet, too. It's pretty crazy. The spice makes for a fun eating experience, but I think maybe it could benefit from beef flavor instead of chicken.

I'm about to eat rice, beans (in a tomato stew that turned into paste thanks to all the potatoes I added), carrots, green beans, and chicken.

Tonight was homemade macaroni and cheese along with brownies. These are the advantages of having extended family over.

I'm just about to have a very generic breakfast: a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and maybe a bit of applesauce for dessert.

As I empty out my food inventory at this apartment I made myself a bowl of rice plus two fried eggs which, instead of my typical method, I cooked at a high heat to change the texture and then afterwards I seasoned it with soy sauce from a soy sauce packet I took home from a Chinese takeout place. The resultant dish is called θ·εŒ…θ›‹ (Pinyin: hΓ© bāo dΓ n, literal meaning "wallet egg") and it's served in China commonly as a yummy breakfast!

I was, of course, very pleased with the result, but I don't think I got the fried texture down perfectly. I bet a wok would be immensely helpful here and hopefully I'll get to play with one when I move into my new apartment.

I had a wonderfully delicious glass of milk after my super-cool meal. Mm-mm! Has using up your leftover supplies before you move ever been tastier? I bet not!

For dinner, we had grilled kielbasa, hash browns, and a green salad. Kind of a haphazard combination, but it was pretty good nonetheless.

Sofi needs to make some sort of freaky breakfast sandwich with all her leftovers.

They're not leftovers! They're leftover supplies!

Anyway,

Yesterday my mother and I went grocery shopping because I ran out of eggs. While looking for those half-cartons, the ones that have just the necessary number of eggs, we came across these blue Ameraucana eggs in awfully convoluted packaging. For price reasons, we hardly ever have the chance to support cage-free hens, but this is of course totally a special occasion.

The eggs are a very light, pastel blue color. The difference is difficult to notice in photographs but the appearance in real life is unmistakable. Ameraucana is a relatively new breed of chicken that didn't exist until the '70s. They're bred for their awesome egg color. Some people think their nutritional value is higher but that is totally debatable.

Jones Dairy Farm sausages links. This time, they're those smaller ones with the bumpy texture and these in particular are maple sausages.

The sausages are neatly placed next to a small serving of brown rice. For those of you new to my posts, I frequently serve rice with my fried eggs not only because I don't have any bread right now, but because the way egg yolk tastes when mixed with rice is pretty fucking awesome. If I had any potatoes, however, I'd make hash browns instead in a heartbeat!

For eggs of their size, the yolk inside is pretty large. The pan is still pretty hot from cooking the sausages. My favorite part of making fried eggs is when you have to push the edges of the eggs towards the yolk to make it look nicer. That part is always really fun.

The eggs are fried in safflower oil over medium-low heat and then seasoned with chives.

For the sake of appearances, I seasoned the eggs in white pepper instead of black this time. White pepper is just the seed of the pepper plant and it's slightly less piquant but they tend to come in annoying little containers that end up putting out way too much. It's times like that you should just stick with the black pepper mill, I suppose! Sea salt was of course also added.

Usually at this step I also add paprika, but I didn't feel like it today. I'm not sure why. Don't ask!

With a glass of 2% milk at the side, this is a yummy Sofi breakfast for the early hours. Ever needed a good reason to get up? You have one right here. Now that you know all my delicious secrets, you should try making an awesome breakfast yourself!

Tomorrow: Amercauna meets scrambled.

(There wasn't any music playing during this breakfast-making session, but as the eggs sizzled on her 10" frying pan and when she wasn't snapping photographs on her tiny digital camera, Sofi thought of The Velvet Underground's β€œWho Loves the Sun” and The New Pornographers's β€œJackie”. With sunny side up eggs, β€œWho Loves the Sun” is more than fitting.)

Oh wow, I'll need to try that. My buttered toast this morning was nothing compared to how delicious ^ looks.
I am going out for lunch. Haven't decided where to go yet though.

I had a total of three eggs today, two for lunch and one for dinner. This was accompanied by rice, beans, and chicken, of course.

Now I'm going to New York City so I'll be eating totally new stuff like duck with scallion pancakes, and halal food. Yum

Dinner was chips and salsa. I wasn't in the mood of eating anything heavy/spending a ton of time preparing a meal so I just got some chips and a can of salsa. It was quite tasty

Applesauce (yes, again), mainly because my dinner was a tiny bit less filling that I imagined and I felt like eating something. Tomorrow is all planned out: peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, halal street cart food for lunch (probably rice + lamb), and pizza for dinner.

Yay New York!
