I included a couple freeware and wiiware titles on there because I knew people would mention them. Personally my favorites are DKCR, Super Meat Boy, and Kirby's Epic Yarn. What are yours?

Definitely one of my favorite games of the year. I also got DKCR for Christmas and I had a ton of fun beating that, Mega Man 10 was also a great game. I don't think that I'm going to be able to choose just one game as my favorite for this year .

The only game on this list I've played is StarCraft II, and that only because I got it for Christmas... huh, I didn't realize how far behind I had fallen.

I haven't played any of those games ... living on my own and having to pay rent with no job (hopefully that'll change next year - job interview in January!) made it impossible to buy any new games

In other (old) news, GameFAQs declared Zelda: Majora's Mask game of the decade.

I've only played Megaman 10 (not that much), and a little bit of Donkey Kong Country Returns just yesterday, so I can't really say much

But 3D Dot Game Heroes was definitely great

There's also Dragon Quest 9 and Final Fantasy 13 that aren't in the poll, and probably more I'm forgetting

My top two picks are Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns! And Kirby would definitely win "Most Adorable Game of the Decade".

Super Mario Galaxy 2.

If you've even played this, then you know how well this game is made. It's the sheer scale of imagination and quirkiness Galaxy 2 is built on is what makes it work so well. Not only that, but it altogether manages to top the original Galaxy, which in it's own right was a damn awesome game and shows just how Nintendo could make its sequel even more awesome.

Otherwise, DKCR would get my vote if it didn't have increasingly difficult levels.

Minecraft all the way. It is the only game I have ever played for 7 hours straight, and not even cared. It has ruined my back from sitting in a chair all day, and I can play it for 5 mins or several hours, with anyone watching or by myself. Worth every goddamn cent.

I think my vote is a little biased but WoW:Cataclysm. Its one of the biggest expansion of any game ever. The amount of things they changed and added is incredible. But I know it wouldn't win any real vote because even with 12 mil subscribers worldwide, there are many more gamers that play a large variety of other games.

From that list? Minecraft. It's a big sandbox. Made essentially out of legos that do different things. Way too addictive.

Otherwise I'd nominate Fallout: NV (with the patches.) It should never have been released in its initial state, though. But now it works fine.

Well, I wouldn't be me if I didn't think StarCraft II was pretty fucking important.

But I haven't played it in a few weeks and I barely follow tourneys... I might try to practice up to play in a TSL3 qualifier but there is just no way I can beat the best NA players, let alone the best players worldwide. The skill gap is enormous. The campaign was underwhelming and I'm currently frustrated with multiplayer so who knows?

As multivoting is enabled, I also picked Minecraft and SMG2.

Minecraft is... legos that don't pinch your hands. It's almost cheating to compare it to any other video game right now. The degree to which you can do anything you want to the world is unparalleled.

Mario Galaxy 2 was the strongest single player game I experienced this year. I feel like with Galaxy 2 they finally decided to just take the game flow and level structuring ideology from Mario 3 and Mario World and make 3D levels instead of 2D. We've seen a few points on the spectrum from more choices at once in Mario 64 through Sunshine and Galaxy 1 on the way back to the old linear game flow. While Mario 64 was an amazing game and there is still nothing like it, Galaxy 2 is the first 3D Mario game to have the true soul of the platform genre. You don't need any goals more complex than get from point A to point B. All you need is interesting and complex combinations of simple obstacles, and SMG2 delivers.

I actually don't even like sandbox games a great deal, but this game is just too amazing to dislike:

Just Cause 2 took about 30 hours from my life, and filled it with explosions. I love it for that.

Mega Man 10. Can't go with the majority because I haven't played any recent sole Mario entry in the series since Mario 64.

I think Cataclysm might be up for best expansion pack of the year since that's technically what it is... but based on some reaction I've read, I can see the argument for giving it a little consideration for GotY because of how it freshened up the game.
