Miyamoto said that that the SM64 2 demo was multiplayer, with Mario and Luigi, which inspired me to conjecture some ideas on how the demo could have been like.

The following Youtube links are what I think what SM64 2 eventually split into.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_uTpopTDnk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7Z9MzMg9vM

These are my conjectured thoughts:

"The demo started out with Mario and Luigi at the same spot. The setting of the demo was a city similar to Delfino Plaza, Bianco Hills, and Ricco Harbor.

Mario had to defeat the Hinokuri/Tramplin' Stu using Fludd (or a water gun, as Nintendo had said about SMS), or a barrel to defeat the Hinokuri. The Hinokuri would release Strollin' Stus or Goombas, and would poop out washable rainbow goop from the eye at the top of it's head (the Spaceworld Tramplin' Stu is looks excatcly the same as the Test Level, but it is wearing an onion with two eyes when considering this image: http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/3812/flippinonionfreaks.png). Mario could also kick a soccer ball into a cardboard that says "GOAL" in red. Mario also could talk with humans and Piantas.

Luigi had to explore the interiors of the city's haunted buildings. The ghosts would play tricks on Luigi, which would obviously terrify him. Can't really say much 'bout Luigi 'cause the LM GCN tech demo appears to be more like a compilation of cutscenes rather than actual gameplay."

Please do not write rude or nasty insults like "F*** you a**hole, you are completely f***ing wrong!"

Humble and kind opinions/oppositions are welcomed.

I am actually thinking of recreating the beta Delfino Plaza as a standard 3d model. The level itself has quite a decent exposure with an aerial shot for good measure. This means I can use the Spaceworld trailer as reverence. I can also see that on second glimpse of that trailer, that their is actually a small resemblance to the Delfino Plaza from the final version.
I think with that in mind that recreating the beta Delfino Plaza. It should be plausible and definitely something I wouldn't mind doing. Too bad I have other venture at the moment, but this is on my "too do" list

As for the games itself, it looks like at that stage of development, that the two games may not be far off from what it is now. I recon that SMS was was created with the idea of using F.L.U.D.D to complete missions and LM was created to experiment with using a different engine. Both games I think was just to experiment and had the GameCube been more of an success, then I think the games was to have proper sequels for that console.

The history of LM wasn't really tied at all with Mario 64 2. IIRC, some doll house setting was used on the N64 for a new game, and Luigi was only used to keep it looking like a fresh concept. It evolved into a haunted setting, and was later moved to the Gamecube, and then the tech demo that was at Spaceworld and later the game at E3. There's articles describing it here in the "Documents/Interviews/Articles" section.

Super Mario 128, what seemed to be Nintendo's playground for Mario ideas, is pretty much the closest thing to Mario 64 2 that has ever been referenced. Sunshine was one of the ideas that came out of that, but LM was completely separate.

EDIT: Derp, missed the point of the post. Still, if anyone wants some LM history fun, it's there.

I just infered about LM because Nintendo said the SM642 demo was multiplayer, and the games contrast each other with the main character are LM and SMS. It could be possible that concepts from SM642 were used in SM128, SMS, SM64DS, and SMG1, but that is just speculation.

Wow. You're basing all this on a single quote from Miyamoto?

This is exactly the kind of rampant speculation I don't want on the wiki. It's completely absurd.
