Zu
Mario World
Mario
Super
Burasa (Blasa?)

...no idea wtf the last one is suppose to be, perhaps a segment of another word that got cut off? I originally thought due to the font that was a hiragana du/dzu as opposed to katakana bu, but that would make even LESS sense

Thank you. Also, considering the other strings, isn't that last one likely to be "Bros."?

Also, I stumbled upon another string. Probably just a placeholder or something, but...

Edit: I just found a copy of the japanese ROM and those strings are indeed used on the game select screen in addition to the english titles. Also, the japanese SMA2 title screen is a trillion times better.

Taking the lone ズ and putting the ブラサ in front, we get ブラサズ or "Burasazu" which is close to how "Brothers" is usually written in Kana, ブラザーズ or "Burazaazu".

ah, duh, I guess what threw me off was the lack of the za and ー ... pretty safe presumption, though.

That one says chiAKU. Looks like nonsense, the first symbol is hiragana and the next are katakana.

My attempt at translating it...
The one on the left: Professor Horuto...
The one on the right: Come on, you need to be resolute! Let's head out to Molcum!

I haven't played PSIV for awhile so I don't remember who Horuto might be...

It's a kan ja.

By the way, sick people are also kanja! (patients)

---

This one's a pun... I'm not sure what the first "kan" means. Do you know what he's talking about in that picture? Could be can, coffin, pipe, feeling, etc.

---

Professor Holt...

That does it! There's no time to wait. To Molcom!

On the subject of the Raja pun, here's how they seem to have tried to translate it in the prototype (shamelessly stolen from this thread on Phantasy Star Cave):

These look like kanji words mixed with random hiragana. If it says something, it's very out of order.

Right, so, "It's a feeling."

There's not really a way to directly translate that pun into English, but you could replace it with something equally as stupid.

"Just a sensation. Like the Jonas Brothers!"
"It's a feeling. By the way, sick people are also feeling... awful!"
"I'm as patient as a man in a hospital."

...

My work here is done.

I suppose they could have played on the words "patience" and "patients," too.

...of course, it's supposed to be a bad joke, anyway, so, since they were clearly able to change the code, they could always have thrown in whatever attempt they wanted, then add a pause and an extra dialog box with a line like, "Hmm. I suppose that doesn't translate well into Basic."

(Edited - because I should NOT post in mid-thought...)

Thanks folks, I appreciate it. I'll add it to the wiki soon-ish after doing some ability/enemy hacking.

I suspect that in GoldS' second image, it might be interpreted as three 16x16 tiles rather than two rows of text?

Yeah, just figured it out. It's Moriyama, Inafuku, and Kitai, the names of people who worked on the game's art.
