>>ESTABLISHING LINK...DONE. >>FETCHING POST DATA...DONE. >>EXECUTING POSTDISP.BIN... The box right above "Trial Edition"? Looking at it with a different palette (the proper one doesn't seem to be loaded, if it still exists): ![]() ...it looks kinda like 体験版 to me, "taikenban" or "trial version", which would make sense considering the English text. -------------------- |

Here's a new discovery I've made in the arcade version of NBA Jam Tournament Edition.
This was found in the U13 ROM at 34F4C-3711D. Unlike the expletive-filled SNES NBA Jam prototype, this version is censored. It may not have always been that way though. The sound is stored in three pieces, the first being "Get that sh," the second being the beep, and the third being "out of here!" This allows the middle part to be swapped out easily. The uncensored middle part hasn't been found yet, if it even exists. Makes me wonder if Tim Kitzrow was lying about that prototype being fake... For anyone who wants to rip the audio from T.E. or the original NBA Jam, the U12 and U13 ROMs contain all of the announcer's speech. You can rip from these files using the following steps in Audacity*:
* Audacity version 2.0.1 was used in the creation of this tutorial. -------------------- |

I got bored and actually found something with a hex editor for once, in Gran Turismo (US v1.2). Plain-text ASCII Strings can be found in MESSAGES.DAT and SYSTEM.DAT. Notes: The game has a track list, but never uses it to my knowledge.
As well, in the middle of the Settings menu content, there is a single string that refers to "Aerodynamic Parts". I chose not to post a snippet from it because around that string all that are the normal, used strings for tuning parts. At the end of the SYSTEM.DAT file, there are strings that refer to the games' tracks by their internal filenames. They are either actual track duplicates, or flags set depending on what mode is used. They are all formatted similar to this, which I believe either refers to Special Stage Route 7 or Special Stage Route 11. In addition, these files also refer to a track down as "rogotest". As well, the strings the game loads for the displayed track name at the start of the race also mention a "rogo-test".
As well, another set of strings, some of these appear to be connected to the pause menu, others to general results menus. Maybe there's debugging functions? I could see a "Win Race" option leading to a submenu with the options "Result GOLD", "Result SILVER", "Result BRONZE" and and "Losing".
And lastly, I'm not sure if there were any cars with the RR drivetrain type in Gran Turismo. |

| The internal track list is rather undetailed, it would seem. May be part of why it isn't used. I'm uncertain if the japanese version of GT1 displays music track and artist names every time it switches to a different piece of music mid-race. I do know that the JP and US versions of Gran Turismo games, especially GT1 in particular, have completely swapped out soundtracks. All of the regional differences alone would make for a meaty article. For instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR-gr0zQ5bc - This is the JP version of the Nissan dealership theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87-aI73sbbc - And this is the song that appeared in the US\UK releases. This level of soundtrack swapping didn't happen in later Gran Turismo games. MOST of the original soundtrack survived, save for Moon Over The Castle (the main theme of Gran Turismo, essentially) never getting out of Japan as the games' opening themes. |

Found this discovery on a beta video of the N64:![]() It features a beta Bob-omb Battle Field portrait, in the beta the bombs have the wind-up stick, while in the final version the bombs don't have it on their backs. |

| I've been playing King of Fighters EX2 on the Game Boy Advance and discovered that there are three special endings that are in the Japanese version, but not on the American version (not sure about the European version). These endings can be obtained if Kyo's and Iori's teams have the Master Orochi rank. To get them you must play as one of these teams: -Kyo, Iori and Reiji -Jun, Miu and Moe -Reiji, Ryo and Kensou Ryo and Kensou don't need Orochi rank. I tried to get this endings in the American version but couldn't and someone at Youtube told me that you can only get those endings in the Japanese version. Here's the link to the special endings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asrTKZD6qDI Is it worthy of being on the wiki? If it is, I guess a translation would be nice (I couldn't find any). I don't know how to look into the ROM, sadly. Also, I've played with the debug in King of Fighters 2003. First, the debug mode works a little different than in other games (most notably all characters have their correct pallette in the sprite viewer). Sadly there is no act code displayed in the sprite viewer, most of the debug menus have no text, and there isn't much unused stuff, though I haven't looked at most of the characters yet. There are also a lot of weird animation that I don't know if they are used or not. |

| Discovered by an associate... In Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, in Sumaru City, in Konan Ward, in the Lunar Palace apartments, in Maya Amano's room, on her work desk....there's a picture of some kind. ![]() Roughly north of her head in that picture. Not that easy to see in pSX at 320x240, right? Well, like many textures in the game, it's too small to make out any fine details. But when using a basic ePSXe+Pete's Whatever Plugin setup to res-up to 800x600.... ![]() Click for closer. Now you can see it to the left of her head. Unlike most of the textures in the room, the picture becomes quite a bit clearer! How clear can it get? Well, the fastest way to find that out would surely be to delve into the VRAM, which as many of you know will look rather like this at first... ![]() (taken in pSX, click to draw nearer) So let's just go ahead and load an ePSXe savestate into the PSX-VRAM utility.... ![]() There, in the lower left... Quite unexpectedly high-quality, isn't it? I may not have gotten the palette entirely correct, but I'm not very good at judging colors. I must admit, while I'm a Megaten fan, I'm not intimately familiar with the Persona games, so it's possible that this picture is used elsewhere. But I don't believe it is, and I don't believe the child in the picture is ever identified, or the circles on the photo (blood?) explained. To my knowledge, the picture is never mentioned in the game, and there is no way to examine it more closely. It also doesn't seem to match up with any portraits from EP or Innocent Sin, even from flashbacks. I could very well be wrong about some or all of these assumptions, and if so, I'd appreciate correction. That aside, it's still odd that the texture used seems to be around six times larger than how it is displayed in the game. |

| That's Maya Amano as a child, you see that portrait in the flashback cutscenes. Still a very curious and interesting find, can't believe they dedicated so much space for a tiny picture frame you can't even make out. |
