I am providing this license for use in all of the source files distributed for this project. If you create code for this project, it MUST be original code that you write yourself and MUST be released under this license as well. But it's not the GNU GPL, so you won't feel castrated.

Permission to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software for any

purpose with or without fee is hereby granted, provided that the
original authorship is not misrepresented.

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND THE AUTHOR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES
WITH REGARD TO THIS SOFTWARE INCLUDING ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF

WHATSOEVER RESULTING FROM LOSS OF USE, DATA OR PROFITS, WHETHER IN AN
ACTION OF CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER TORTIOUS ACTION, ARISING OUT OF
OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

As of this notice, any source code posted in this board, called "Community F-Zero X Editor", will be licensed with the above license unless otherwise stated.

That's not actually public domain... nor does it comply with any of the commonly accepted definitions of free software or open source software (hint: "non-commercial").

If you don't mind me saying, I like the ISC License. You might have made up your mind already, but heh.

It is illegal to use reverse-engineered game software for commercial purposes. If we use the ISC, we'll have to modify it to say so.

EDIT:
Illegal use really isn't something that needs to be said, is it? Well, I've taken the ISC and modified it only to remove the "requirement" of posting the copyright and notice in any derived source files. I replaced that part with ensuring "original authorship" is not misrepresented.

OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

Give that a look-over and we'll see about changing the license.

(My previous post over-looked a sentence of yours; if you saw it, ignore it)

If that's what you really want, then I guess it's perfect. If only it were easier to put it in the public domain ... (in the United States at least, legally putting something in the public domain is harder than simply slapping ISC or WTFPL on it ).

That ISC paragraph has a better disclaimer, so I'll probably use it.

Now that we've had this discussion about source code licensing, will you be submitting any source code for the project?

I don't know yet; I might do some documentation though if I have time.

I've changed the license to reflect the edited ISC draft. This is effective immediately an applies to all source code posted in this "Community F-Zero X Editor" forum at the time of this post.
