Now its getting crazy. I guess mobile computing is the future. There won't be much that you can't do on a cellphone after next year.

By 2030 we will have floating terminal screens, and it will be awesome.

Yeah I've heard of these. Pretty exciting stuff. Seems desktop computing has mostly stagnated, so they're moving on to bringing mobile computing up to speed. Just a couple years ago, smart phones weren't terribly useful outside of texting and text editing and scheduling and corny games. Before the iphone, you could barely browse the web. If Apple can be credited for something, it'd be putting some fuel towards the smartphone revolution. Hell, 8Mm browsing and posting from a smart phone.

The down side of all this is it's hard to keep ahead with being able to run the latest apps, because your phone is obsolete in a year. Kinda where PCs were for several years... pretty much their entire history up until the past year or so.

Wacky, but, dual-core is useful, so, it makes sense they'd put it in cell phones. Seems surreal to me.

But I love desktop computers.

Oh well, hopefully either I'll get with the times and get more mobile or watch as technology passes me by and I go WHOOOOOOAAAA.

Well, it's not too bad--the stagnation means you can have a kick-arse super desktop for cheap.

Yeah, desktop computers are still popular and I greatly prefer them for my primary system, but there hasn't been a whole lot of advancements in a while.

I think the next big thing will be CPUs with a ton of shader units or something. That would at least be cool to have fully software programmed graphics engines or whatever else you want to do with those without the need for a separate video card apart from just a basic 2D card.

If they don't go that way, I guess they'd just add more regular cores or something....

Still, good we're seeing progress elsewhere, in mobile applications. They might learn some things about lowering power consumption that could be applied to desktop CPUs, or everything might just change over to ARM. (not likely)

I've never really been a fan of a phone with a bazillion gadgets. Especially touchscreens I don't 'trust'. I have the LG Crystal phone from when it first came out, and it became unresponsive and buggy after 2 months. I just want a simple phone to use as an actual phone. I'll use a PDA for everything else (organizer, calendar, etc.).

I actually kinda do this ssame thing already. (phone for calls, DS/netbook for everything else)

I really do want a better phone, but I'm not in an urgent rush for one.

I just got an iPhone 4 and it really is an advanced piece of technology. Android phones are catching up but the iPhone is still the smoothest and easiest to use. I can't imagine what the iPhone 5 will be like. It'll most likely be dual core by the time they release it and running iOS 5 that will resemble Mac OS.

I wonder how long it'll be until Quad Core mobile phones? That would be cool.

Quad core? When will we ever need so much computing power for a phone?

Oh yeah.

Hey, hey, 16K!
What does that get you today?
You need more than that for a letter;
Old school RAMPaks are much better!

That's true. I prefer desktops specifically for the upgradable power they have.

This current computer's maxed out the way it is now, unless I upgrade the motherboard/CPU and upgrade to 7 or something.

Of course as soon as I finally manage to buy one, it'll take off again and the damn thing will be obsolete within 5 minutes.

(Also, Bill never actually said that.)
