When I hunt for caves in an area where I can't find a surface entrance I dig a huge quarry. When I find a cave I now tend to do what Xkeeper does. It turns out more resources are hiding just behind the walls.

I'm actually digging teh Quarry for building materials instead of Hidden Caves. It's also deeper now than shown.

When I dig for stone.... I just sorta, dig out rooms underground and keep the stone

When I dig for diamonds and such, I use a branch mine arranged in a way like... Well, imagine this as a cross-section.

###########

#.###.###.#
#.###.###.#
###########
###.###.###
###.###.###
###########

As that arrangement provides the best coverage for horizontal mines.

That actually seems to be kind of inefficient, as you end up being unable to see a lot of blocks.

Assuming that these tunnels continue all the way down, a better use of your time is probably like this:

#########################

# ## ## ## ## ##
# ## ## ## ## ##
#########################
## ## ## ## ##
## ## ## ## ##
#########################

You end up spending more time digging out blocks, but all of them are revealed from one tunnel or another.

It's more efficient, you spend less time digging, and due to how ore veins work, unless you're at bedrock (It's best to dig a few levels above) you're going to see everything anyways.

Not necessarily; the way those tunnels are configured you can still miss them if they show up in the corners.

"the core reason that 2x1 is more efficient, is that ore never (or extremely rarely) spawns in a 1x1x(something) configuration. so you do not need to see every block to know that there is no ore there"

And when diamond does, it spawns like that below layer 10, closer to the bedrock.

E: Durf. Thought those tunnels were 2 wide. Damn spacing.

Good Lord, Eppy... XD

My map seems to have a lot of natural holes in the ground, something I don't see on any of my other maps. On this same map, not far from where I start, is a stone shelter leading under a plateau. The mine in here goes probably deeper than any hole on the map does.

Also, the whole mine is themed for Metroid X3. I'm growing trees in "Brinstar", cascades in "Maridia", and lava in "Norfair". Also, planning to set up workstations with chests, benches and furnaces (sorta like save stations)

Created a new map and I keep finding above-ground/close to surface dungeons now.
This makes me very happy.

Could I get whitelisted too? Name's Thexare. I'm still an admin on another server, but that one's... a bit more restrictive. Sometimes I just wanna screw around a bit.

Just finished building this Indoor Pool. The Glass Squares in the water have lava below them to help show that that is a heated pool. Still plan to add a few things to the room to make it look more furnished.

Also, Sukasa owns that apartment with the higher window in the distance. Lucky view of the pool.
