Harry Potter Fans Deemed Too Heavy for 'Wizarding World' Ride

Sucks for the people that can't fit the seat. I'm not obese but some rides at Knottsberry Farm were tight. We plan on going there next year, too. May have to lose some weight just to be sure I can ride the rides.

They don't keep "bigger" people in mind when they make these rides.

Well, if you were to most seats for bigger people, you'd have the reverse problem. And let's face it, 'punishing' thin people is rather unintuitive. I'm not saying that fat people shouldn't be able to have fun, but most of the time it's your own fault if you have to condition.

Might be a message, who knows.

"We won't always adapt for you, so lose so weight" Probably not, but I can always dream.

I'm not sure how well these things would fit on a stick figure like me, either, now that they mention it...

BREAKING NEWS: Letting yourself become a human blob may put you over the weight and/or size limits of amusement park rides. Perhaps you'd fit better on the seat of a strong bicycle? They're fun to ride too.

Just to let you know, HH, I know someone who is well over six feet (probably 6'5) and weighs over 330.

He is hardly a "human blob" (actually very strong), just built thick.

So yeah, that kind of stereotyping is a bad idea.

The threshold is pretty small on some rides. I'm not that overweight and I'd probably be on the brink. I understand its better to be healthy and smaller, but as Xkeeper said, some people are just "big boned" as they call it. They're physical fit and healthy, but still larger than the "average weight" for their height, or they are tall and heavy but still right for their height.

I understand from an engineering standpoint that you can't accommodate every body size, but it seems like they don't allow for larger people on purpose sometimes.

...And some may not fit stick figures like me, who weigh as little as 115 lbs.

Well, if you can discriminate based on height (vertical size), it normaly shouldn't be much different based on horizontal size. Really.

True. I suppose midgets and people with other "height disorders" could be upset about height restrictions. They could claim discrimination just like overweight people can, but for some reason I can't recall any recent issues "little people" have brought forth.

That's because they understand that the ride wasn't designed for them, and that they could get hurt if they ride it. :|

True.

And I guess it makes sense why people would get upset about the Hogwarts thing: they knew lots of people wouldn't be able to ride it. They even made a test-seat in line because they knew how big of a problem it would be. "Laziness" or "stinginess" to design a ride that would fit larger people (or hell, even an XL seat for every few regular seats) is the problem here, not a safety concern. Or maybe the safety concern too, but that could have been fixed with better ride design.
