I recently tried modeling a sports stadium in SketchUp with properly 3D-modeled seats. I only got to like 3000 before Stillstorm started slowing down. I don't want to stick with giant surfaces lazily splapped with stadium-seating textures, but at the same time using field-facing quads textured with individual seats seems inauthentic? I guess I could put bleachers or something instead…?

In any case, watch this space while I try remaking one of my old Safirian baseball stadia.

Thank you! Yeah, I always liked trying to build up a smooth effect but with painterly brushes and stuff (which is very obvious in the lower resolution one), but it's taken me years to figure out how to use them.

Also colour. I can get closer to colour matching (without an eye dropper). And I understand light and shadow better. Like… that shadows will tend towards blues and purples compared to their base shade, and highlights will lean towards yellows. I never really used to shade with tints (add blacks) but I just used to guess at things, and now I have an actual idea what I'm doing… on purpose…

Haha I have no idea what's going on, but the layout has improved dramatically!

Thank you for reading it!

I had to rewrite a few things multiple times to make them more comprehensible, but in the end I was still wondering if it turned out alright. There's still a few things missing on that page, such as the Voice Recognition unit thing, but they're minor things (which are going to require a bit more effort than normal, compared to the rest of the page).

This is far from finished, but I've re-made this guide for learning how to play a series of video games called Densha de GO!. I plan to include basically all the information needed to understand the game's mechanics and other miscellaneous things. This is something I've been working on since the beginning of last year, but because of school, updates became very infrequent.

I first had this idea when I was 10. I didn't understand English at all so I wrote it all in Portuguese using Microsoft Publisher. It's a good thing it was never published and it's a sad thing that I have to publish it today, because it honestly suuuuucks. When I was 13, I thought that I could make it again, except this time better (and in English!). To be honest, it was better, but it's still not good. Even worse, I tried to put humor into it, but my attempt at humor sucked and was oftenly more rude than funny.

This wouldn't be so embarrassing if it wasn't less than 5 years ago.

Okay, so now that you understand the disaster that this page was back then, you can see them here:

Spoiler:
2011 page (the charset was Windows-1252 but it was causing some glitches so I switched it to UTF-8)
2014 "page" (made in Publisher also, but this one doesn't use the webpage format)

So, a long time ago, I made this piece of crap over the space of a weekend. This thread has inspired me to remake it using my improved programming skills, and whatever tips and tricks I've picked up along the way.

Certainly not likely to get it done over the weekend, especially given it's already Saturday night and AGDQ hasn't finished yet, but I'm pretty excited for this. I'll either make a post showing an update, or a straight-up release.

More in character haha. Although Lulu isn't really angry, from memory. Just kind of severe. At the start she's kind of a bit grumpy to Tidus in particular, but even towards the end she's not exactly bubbly and smiley.

I think I've finally managed to capture her resting bitch face.

The search for good material continues as I didn't use my sketchbooks for much besides doodles, often to note down ideas.

I've seen a couple of things around my pixel art that might warrant a revisit though.

OK, I remade a thing that I've already remade at least once before (twice, apparently, but I can't open the 2005 file because it's in openCanvas).

First in 2003:
Then in 2012:
And now in 2018:

Soooo, some things that changed, I guess… uhh, colour, for one. I have a better understanding of what happens to colour in light and shadow (but still not perfect). Faces! I kind of know how a face works, a bit, sometimes? And the head that a face is part of? Have a better idea of both structure and how some features work (like lips, and noses).

Things that haven't changed much: I lazied out on the hands like, every single time. One of the hands isn't too bad on the new one, but the other uhhhhhhhhhh. I am lazy in a lot of places a lot of the time.

Random observation: Lulu gets progressively serious looking, like the actual Lulu.

I'm sure it's normal for most creative work. I do the same with drawings/paintings, and with writing. I lived with a songwriter once who did it regularly too.

By the way, guys, it doesn't have to be like, a whole game or something. It could just be an asset from the game that you made, for instance!

I'll have to look if there's anything that'll fit.
I don't seem to have patience for gamedev stuff, so the old GM projects are probably safe.
Maybe there is something in my sketchbooks that was elaborate for the time.

Technically the homepage already has two different "pseudo-redesigns": this one (sound) and this one. Maybe an excuse to finally make the first one larger, or something.

Ah, but you probably do, even if it's not necessarily a tangible "thing" that you can show us. You've doubtless learned a lot during it all, and developed your skills, for instance.

I guess the point of the exercise is to see how you'd approach something old but with all those accumulated skills and experience.

Is it something you could do without too much effort, and have a bit of fun with? If so, then great!

The hall of failures is pretty cool, btw. It's good to have a retrospective like that.

Does the occasional updates to this page count? (one year and 10 years, respectively)

No? Oh, well. I don't even know what I could show off; most of what exists of mine is either something that isn't really good for this or a thing that I haven't actually worked on at all since the original... pah. Maybe this is a good time to redo this ancient thing

I wish to propose a (hopefully fun) challenge to all you creative types!

Find something old of yours, and make it again. Nothing too big (unless you want to), just a little bit of fun. The thread on old data reminded me that I have a whoooole bunch of old things I could revisit…

When you're done, post the original, and your new one here, and show us how far you've come!
