Truth be told, I didn't expect them to still be sold in stores.

I just may need to seek some out soon...

the walmart i work at has a notice taped to their nintendo display that they stock snes classics around 8AM, and they go for sale at 11AM and no sooner

i picked one up myself last week - they still are selling like hot cakes though!!

I hacked mine the other day. For some reason I can't get Der Langrisser to work. It's not in Hackchi2's database, so I imagine I probably need to set it to run on RetroArch manually (some games will automatically detect if it's not compatible and this isn't one of them.)

EDIT: It runs fine now, I thought I had RetroArch and the proper cores installed, but must have slipped up in that initial set-up. But I had grabbed the "joke" translation of Der Langrisser from eons ago. I don't know how I even got that.

Mostly just that it's a profoundly shitty company, that's all.

that game is such a profound work of art. i guess the thing a lot of Western players didn’t realize is 糸井 重里’s renowned as an essayist/writer in Japan, like on par w/ Murakami. a lot of Japanese non-gamers played Earthbound b/c of that, even.

i got a bunch of Wii classic controllers since i don’t rly like the SNES ones (call me a heretic, go ahead). maybe when i have a chance, i’ll hack mine as well and throw on some classics:
  • DoReMi Fantasy: Milon’s Dokidoki Adventure

  • Umihara Kawase

  • Kaizo Mario World

  • idk, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R or smth

what’s wrong w/ Wal-Mart, bub?

Can confirm, is really that easy to mod.

I was actually at the store for something else when I saw this; I'd given up on realistically having a chance at it.

Tip: Walmarts sometimes do their stocking in the evening. On the other hand, you're shopping at Walmart.

I got mine about a month ago, thanks to a friend who just happened to stop by GameStop. StarFox 2 is a lot better than I remembered when I played the near-complete beta that leaked eons ago, but the game I'm playing the most, much to my own surprise, is EarthBound... a game that I once owned and finished to completion as a teenager. At one time thought was the game was really overrated. It's only as an adult that I get why it has such a rabid fanbase.

I haven't loaded any ROMs on mine yet. I want to finish EarthBound first (and I'm not going back to that until I've finished Mario Odyssey), but now that they're out, I'll definitely be loading the English fan translation of Far East Of Eden Zero and the prototype for NES SimCity (since loading RetroArch is an option.)

I may still get the Super Nt at some point, but I'm having fun with this thing for the time being.

Apparently it really is that easy and many people already have

I'm considering popping in the handful of games that I'd want to play on a SNES-like object again on there.

ooh! that’s good to know.

really, all i like about playing on SNES is obscure Japanese games i read about. so if i can actually play those on my SNES classic that could be really nice.

doesn’t fit my aesthetic, too early ’90s when my aesthetic is more early 2000s Japanese tech luxury.

Just keep it as decoration? It's a cute little console, at least.

The menu music is too catchy for its own good.

lol, tbh i’m not sure what i’m going to do. i think we resolved to have me keep it even though i didn’t really want it b/c it’s a “token of friendship”.

my roommate, out of nowhere, bought me one even though i didn't rly, like, want one and now she's upset that i don't seem more excited.

i've been sitting around pining for the Game Boy Light for weeks and i can't believe she bought me this??

like, i'm really appreciative of the thought and i keep assuring her that's what counts, but she keeps threatening to return it now. (which i'd be happy w/, tbh, that object completely ruins my now-aesthetically perfect home).

tomorrow i'm having a friend over for dinner and we're going to pose in photos of us playing the SNES Classic so i can post about it on social media so she can chill out.

sigh, and i still don't have a Game Boy Light.

No big surprise when the system is literally just an NES Classic with a new coat of paint and a few tweaks.

Surprise, the ROM for Starfox 2 from the SNES Classic has already been dumped.

I think we all knew it wasn't the final version, but it was pretty close.

I'm mostly interested to see if they left the "exploit" in where you can work with them over the USB port. Considering there was a little secret inside last time, I'm wondering if N saw it and demanded no such shenanigans this time, or if there will be something a little more explicit.

Not even preorderable in my market. They have it look like a European SNES which is cute, though I'm hoping they don't necessarily use PAL roms...

I'll honestly more hyped to see a dump of the final Starfox 2 and see how many diffrences there are. There been claims the prototype we have isn't the final version before.
